(VAN) Traders are purchasing dried coconuts at VND 60,000/dozen, a decrease of VND 30,000 over last month due to the decline in the export market.
On June 5, according to information from several gardeners in the provinces of Vinh Long, Tra Vinh, Soc Trang, and Hau Giang, the current price of dried coconuts is being purchased by traders at VND 60,000 per dozen (12 coconuts), a decrease of VND 30,000 per dozen compared to last month. Meanwhile, the price of fresh coconuts ranges from 100,000 to 120,000 VND per dozen, a decrease of 10,000 VND per dozen.
Mr. Ngo Huu Su, Director of Van Hung Cooperative (specializing in purchasing coconuts for export in Tra Vinh), stated that the cooperative supplies 300 to 400 tons of coconuts for export to partners each month, but orders are currently declining. The main reasons are the slowdown in the export market and the increase in transportation costs.
In response to the decline in the price of fresh coconuts, Mr. Le Van Dong, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Tra Vinh province, stated that the province encourages and prioritizes enterprises with strengths in deep processing technology and good market consumption to build processing plants and develop linkages with producers in the province.
According to Mr. Dong, Tra Vinh has nearly 90,000 households cultivating coconuts with more than 7 million trees on a total area of nearly 25,000 ha, mainly concentrated in the districts of Cang Long, Tieu Can, and Chau Thanh. The province has 13 organic coconut material areas established by four enterprises with a total area of 4,012 ha meeting EU and USDA standards, of which 260 hectares meet six standards (Europe – EU, USA – USDA, Japan – JAS, Australia – ACO, Sweden – KRAV, and GlobalGAP).
