(VAN) Recently, the conference on ‘Sustainable Fisheries Linkage Chain – Tilapia for Export’ took place in Tien Hai commune, Hung Yen province.

The conference was organized by Viet Nam-Japan Nutrition Technology Joint Stock Company (Viet Nhat Group) in collaboration with BaiYang Viet Nam Foods Co., Ltd. (BaiYang Group), with the participation of experts and pioneering units in the fisheries sector. The conference offered new perspectives and practical initiatives to improve the quality and value of Vietnamese tilapia in international markets.

Amid the fisheries sector’s shift toward sustainable development, higher added value, and expanded international market access, tilapia has become one of the key industries with significant export potential.

In Viet Nam, tilapia is widely farmed in the Northern and Central regions. In recent years, it has become a commodity with a fast-growing export turnover, holding a strategic position in the fisheries sector. However, to enhance competitiveness, meet international standards, and expand global market share, Viet Nam’s tilapia industry needs to establish a synchronous linkage chain, from broodstock, farming, and processing to consumption.

In 2025, Viet Nhat Group and BaiYang Group launched a strategic partnership to transfer BaiYang’s fully developed “food and animal feed” industrial chain model to Viet Nam. This cooperation aims to develop the tilapia processing industry and the animal feed manufacturing sector. Currently, there are two tilapia processing plants, including Hung Bang Co., Ltd. and BaiYang Viet Nam Foods Co., Ltd. (under construction), expected to be put into operation in 2026, with a daily processing capacity of up to 200 tons of raw tilapia.

Mr. Ngo Minh Ket, Tilapia Project Director at Viet Nhat Group, stated that in Viet Nam’s fisheries sector, tilapia exports remain incommensurate with their potential. BaiYang Group has partnered with Viet Nhat Group to leverage the strengths of both sides in jointly developing the fisheries sector. This collaboration is both a coincidence and a shared aspiration of the two partners.

In the near future, with ongoing projects such as BaiYang Viet Nam, there is strong confidence in establishing a stable export flow for tilapia, creating a sustainable livelihood for farmers. At the same time, the goal is to expand tilapia exports to demanding markets such as the United States, Europe, and many other markets.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Tang Nguyet Bao, representative of BaiYang Viet Nam Foods Co., Ltd., stated that with its experience as a supplier of aquaculture feed and animal feed, BaiYang Group has undergone 20 years of development and currently operates six large-scale feed production facilities with a total annual capacity of 720,000 tons.

Mr. Bao emphasized that, according to the World Aquaculture Association, tilapia is “the fish of the 21st century.” It is a species recommended by FAO for farming worldwide and is ranked by the organization as one of the six primary food sources for humans.

The event also featured a cooperation signing ceremony between Viet Nhat Group and BaiYang Group with eight tilapia-farming households and cooperatives, committing to an annual supply of 8,500 tons of raw materials.

According to Mr. Nguyen Dang Ngoc, Deputy General Director of Viet Nhat Group, building linkage chains to create green value has become a key task of enterprises and production units. During the processing and export of tilapia products to key markets with stringent requirements, Viet Nhat Group has implemented many solutions to build a green value chain, from broodstock and feed to farming and processing.

In particular, regarding aquaculture feed products, the company’s factories are implementing processes for importing raw materials, processing, and production aligned with BAP standards. The company expects to obtain BAP certification for its aquaculture feed products in 2025 and ASC certification in 2026.

In processing, the company is currently engaged in strategic cooperation with Bach Duong Group (China) to build and operate tilapia fillet processing plants in the Northern region (Hung Yen) and the Central region (Thanh Hoa and Phu Yen). All facilities will be designed and operated in accordance with BAP standards to meet the strict requirements of import markets.
