Over 21,000 Ha of rice in Quang Tri have flowered
Taking advantage of sunny days, farmers in Hai Lang District (Quang Tri) are busy harvesting rice. The roads leading to the fields are bustling with the noise of machines, and rice is piled up, ready for buyers.
According to Mr Nguyen Van Toan, a member of An Nhon Cooperative (Hai Duong Commune, Hai Lang District), this year’s summer-autumn rice season is yielding a good crop and favourable prices. Rice is being bought directly from the fields at prices ranging from VND 7.2 to 7.6 million/ton, with some households drying it for sale at around VND 9 million/ton.
“We planted 1 ha of rice this summer-autumn season and harvested over 7 tons/ha, which is higher than last year’s summer-autumn yield. The price for fresh rice in the field is currently VND 7.4 – 7.6 million/ton. With low pest issues and low investment costs, our net profit exceeds VND 20 million. We’re very pleased with the good harvest and favourable prices,” Mr Toan shared.
Mr Tran Dinh Hung, Director of An Nhon Cooperative, mentioned that this year’s summer-autumn season benefited from favourable weather conditions for rice growth. Adequate water supply and low pest issues resulted in high yields. By now, most of the rice has been harvested, and members of An Nhon Cooperative have had a successful season.
According to Mr Van Ngoc Tien Duc, Head of the Agriculture and Rural Development Department of Hai Lang District, the success of this year’s summer-autumn crop is due to favourable weather conditions and careful planning. Past seasons had issues with flooding, which reduced yields, but this year, Hai Lang will complete the harvest by late August and avoid floods.
“The agriculture sector has closely supervised the process, and farmers have adhered to the district’s planting schedule. Learning from previous years, Hai Lang adjusted the planting schedule 5 days earlier than the rest of the province to avoid flooding. The estimated yield for this year’s summer-autumn rice in Hai Lang is 6.4 – 6.5 tons/ha, with some areas reaching up to 7 tons/ha,” Mr Duc said proudly.
According to the Quang Tri Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, more than 21,000 haof rice in the province are currently in the flowering, milky, and dough stages. While Hai Lang District is actively harvesting and nearing completion, other areas have also begun harvesting.
