Rice prices on August 15 domestically

On August 15, rice and paddy prices continued to rise across the Mekong Delta region.

Specifically, paddy prices remain high today, with demand still strong for dry Dai Thom 8 and Thu Dong varieties. In Kien Giang, prices are holding steady at a high level. In Soc Trang, prices are stable and high. In An Giang, prices are also high, with paddy awaiting harvest.

Currently, fresh An Giang sticky rice is priced at VND 7,000 – 7,200/kg, while fresh Long An sticky rice is VND 7,400 – 7,600/kg.

Dry Long An sticky rice is priced at VND 7,000 – 7,900/kg, and fresh IR 4625 sticky rice is around VND 7,800 – 7,900/kg (up VND 100-300).

IR 50404 paddy is holding steady at VND 7,500 – 8,000/kg (up VND 100-400), while Dai Thom 8 paddy is priced at VND 8,300 – 8,400/kg (up VND 100-500).

OM 5451 paddy is at VND 8,000 – 8,150/kg (up VND 50-200), OM 18 paddy is VND 8,300 – 8,400/kg (up VND 100-300), OM 380 paddy is VND 6,800 – 7,100/kg (up VND 100), and Japonica paddy is at VND 7,800 – 8,000/kg.

Meanwhile, Nang Nhen paddy (dry) is trading at VND 20,000/kg, while Nang Hoa 9 is at VND 6,900 – 7,000/kg.

For rice, the supply in the Mekong Delta is low, leading to slow trading and higher prices for good-quality rice which is difficult to purchase.

Currently, rice prices in Lap Vo (Dong Thap) have increased slightly, with good demand but low supply.

Currently, IR 504 summer-autumn paddy is priced at VND 11,700 – 11,750/kg (up VND 50-100), and processed IR 504 rice is at VND 13,750 – 13,850/kg (up VND 150).

Sticky rice is priced between VND 16,000 – 20,000/kg, common rice is at VND 15,000 – 16,000/kg, and Nang Nhen rice is at VND 30,000/kg.

Thai fragrant long-grain rice is priced at VND 20,000 – 21,000/kg, Jasmine rice at VND 18,000 – 20,000/kg, and Huong Lai rice at VND 20,000/kg.

Common white rice is purchased at VND 17,000/kg, Nang Hoa rice is at VND 20,000/kg, Soc rice is at VND 18,500/kg, and Soc Thai rice is at VND 20,000/kg.

Taiwanese fragrant rice is priced at VND 21,000/kg, and Japanese rice is holding steady at VND 22,000/kg. Broken OM 5451 rice is at VND 9,450 – 9,550/kg (up VND 50), and dry rice bran is at VND 7,300 – 7,350/kg (up VND 50).

On the export market, 100% broken rice is priced at $ 440/ton, standard 5% broken rice at $ 570/ton, and 25% broken rice at $ 536/ton.

Thus, rice prices on 08/15/2024, are increasing across the board.

Over 21,000 Ha of rice in Quang Tri have flowered

Taking advantage of sunny days, farmers in Hai Lang District (Quang Tri) are busy harvesting rice. The roads leading to the fields are bustling with the noise of machines, and rice is piled up, ready for buyers.

According to Mr Nguyen Van Toan, a member of An Nhon Cooperative (Hai Duong Commune, Hai Lang District), this year’s summer-autumn rice season is yielding a good crop and favourable prices. Rice is being bought directly from the fields at prices ranging from VND 7.2 to 7.6 million/ton, with some households drying it for sale at around VND 9 million/ton.

“We planted 1 ha of rice this summer-autumn season and harvested over 7 tons/ha, which is higher than last year’s summer-autumn yield. The price for fresh rice in the field is currently VND 7.4 – 7.6 million/ton. With low pest issues and low investment costs, our net profit exceeds VND 20 million. We’re very pleased with the good harvest and favourable prices,” Mr Toan shared.

Mr Tran Dinh Hung, Director of An Nhon Cooperative, mentioned that this year’s summer-autumn season benefited from favourable weather conditions for rice growth. Adequate water supply and low pest issues resulted in high yields. By now, most of the rice has been harvested, and members of An Nhon Cooperative have had a successful season.

According to Mr Van Ngoc Tien Duc, Head of the Agriculture and Rural Development Department of Hai Lang District, the success of this year’s summer-autumn crop is due to favourable weather conditions and careful planning. Past seasons had issues with flooding, which reduced yields, but this year, Hai Lang will complete the harvest by late August and avoid floods.

“The agriculture sector has closely supervised the process, and farmers have adhered to the district’s planting schedule. Learning from previous years, Hai Lang adjusted the planting schedule 5 days earlier than the rest of the province to avoid flooding. The estimated yield for this year’s summer-autumn rice in Hai Lang is 6.4 – 6.5 tons/ha, with some areas reaching up to 7 tons/ha,” Mr Duc said proudly.

According to the Quang Tri Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, more than 21,000 haof rice in the province are currently in the flowering, milky, and dough stages. While Hai Lang District is actively harvesting and nearing completion, other areas have also begun harvesting.
