Reasons for the decline in coffee prices:
Increased supply: Over 70% of Vietnam’s coffee-growing areas have been harvested, resulting in a short-term abundance of supply.
Market quietness: As the Lunar New Year approaches, farmers are limiting sales, only selling small quantities while waiting for prices to rise after the holiday.
Global market fluctuations: Although Robusta coffee prices on the London exchange have risen sharply, domestic prices have yet to reflect this due to transaction delays.
The coffee market remains concerned about Robusta supply over the next 15 days as Vietnam, the world’s primary coffee supplier, will pause operations for the Lunar New Year.
Earlier, during the first three months of the 2024-2025 crop year, Vietnam’s coffee exports were very low, amounting to only about 50% of the same period in previous seasons. As a result, roasters have minimal stock reserves.
High raw coffee prices: At double the price compared to the same period last year, export businesses face financial difficulties in purchasing coffee as usual, requiring at least double the capital.
