(VAN) Global pepper production is expected to continue decreasing this year, while demand remains stable or increases, leading to continued price rises.

Global pepper prices will continue to rise this year.

Global pepper prices will continue to rise this year.

According to the Department of Import-Export (Ministry of Industry and Trade), a forecast from The Star indicates that global pepper prices, which experienced a sharp increase in mid-2024, are expected to continue rising in 2025 due to declining production and demand far exceeding supply. Currently, the global pepper supply is very scarce, and demand is expected to either continue increasing or remain stable.

Information from the International Pepper Association’s website shows that pepper prices have increased across most major export markets since the beginning of the year. Among them, Indonesia’s white pepper export price saw the largest increase, rising by 12.8%, while its black pepper export price also rose by 6.9%.

Brazil’s pepper export prices increased by 7.5%. Malaysia’s black and white pepper export prices increased by 5.9% and 8.4%, respectively. Overall, pepper prices are continuing to rise, signaling that prices are likely to remain high this year.

In the first 18 days of February, pepper export prices from Indonesia, Brazil, and Vietnam continued to rise. On February 18, in the Ho Chi Minh City port area of Vietnam, the export price of black pepper (500g/l) increased by 150 USD/ton compared to January 16, 2025, reaching 6,500 USD/ton.

Also on February 18, the export price of black pepper from Indonesia increased by 181 USD/ton compared to January 16, 2025, reaching 7,294 USD/ton; the export price of black pepper from Brazil rose by 450 USD/ton compared to January 16, 2025, reaching 6,800 USD/ton.
