(VAN) Yiwu is considered the world’s ‘capital of small commodities’ and wishes to cooperate with Vietnam, contributing to the economic development of both countries.

Yiwu is an international trade city that has made many miracles. According to Chinese media, President Xi Jinping has positioned Yiwu as the world’s ‘capital of small commodities.’ On September 20 last year, Mr. Xi visited and worked in Yiwu for the 13th time and gave the city a new mission of becoming “a typical example of Chinese-style modernization.” Mr. Xi encouraged, “Yiwu, with small commodities but big markets, needs to constantly create new glory.”

Representative of Yiwu City Government, Mr. Li Rui, said that in recent years, Yiwu’s import-export trade has developed rapidly. From January to October this year, Yiwu’s imports and exports reached USD 78.8 billion, an increase of 16.7%. With the increasingly deepened and enhanced China-Vietnam relationship, trade between Yiwu and Vietnam is also increasingly close.

In the first 10 months of the year, Yiwu city’s import-export turnover with Vietnam reached USD 893 million, up 25% over the same period. The ‘capital of small commodities’ of China is ready to actively implement agreements between the leaders of the two countries and discuss and promote cooperation with Vietnam in various fields, contributing to the economic development of both countries.

At the Vietnam-China Agricultural, Forestry, and Fishery Import-Export Trade Connection Forum held in Lang Son city on the morning of December 3, Mr. Li made three proposals to increase trade between the two countries as follows:.

First, increase trade. Yiwu Small Commodity Trade Area has an area of more than 6.4 million m² with 75,000 booths, trading more than 2.1 million types of goods and welcoming more than 560,000 foreign customers to shop each year.

Yiwu city encourages Yiwu businesses to expand trade with Vietnam. Meanwhile, agricultural products such as star anise and cinnamon from Lang Son city were displayed at the largest-scale exhibition in Zhejiang.

Many Vietnamese products, such as mung bean cake, coconut candy, cashew nuts, dried lychees, durian, jackfruit, and dragon fruit, have been sold in Yiwu and received love from consumers.

“We hope that with this good foundation, we continue to use Yiwu’s efficient and convenient trading economic network to support Vietnam’s high-quality products in entering the Chinese market,” Mr. Li said.

Second, strengthen transport connections. Yiwu is located in the geographical center of Zhejiang province and is the transport hub of the pan-European railway and the sea route along the Silk Road by Land and Sea. In October 2020, the first train of the pan-European – Yiwu – Hanoi railway officially departed from the Pingxiang border gate (Guangxi, China) to the Hanoi capital.

This is the first time this railway has opened a cargo route to Southeast Asian countries. In addition to railways, Yiwu also actively exploits truck, aviation, and maritime transport routes. To smooth regional and international logistics, last year, on the occasion of the World Cities Summit, the establishment of a Logistics Committee was proposed. Yiwu city welcomes more and more Vietnamese cities and businesses to join in promoting the development of regional connectivity.

Third, further deepen youth exchanges. Youth are the future of cooperation and also the driving force for future development. Since 2018, Yiwu has organized “Run with Yiwu–Global Youth Business Program.” Thanks to Yiwu’s large advantages in international trade, an efficient logistics system, and a vibrant market economy, Yiwu provides free training courses on cross-border e-commerce, international trade, startup incubation, and cultural exchange to young people around the world. There are currently more than 300 outstanding young people from more than 70 countries, including Vietnam, participating in.

“Through training, young people have a deeper understanding of the Chinese economy and international trade, enhancing their creativity and start-up capacity. Many of them have entered the international trade and cross-border e-commerce industries, realizing their business dreams while creating value for society. We wish to continue providing training opportunities for Vietnamese youth, helping them pursue their entrepreneurial dreams,” said Mr. Li.
