Pepper prices on December 25 globally

On the global market, pepper prices turned slightly downward in Indonesia on December 25.

Specifically, the price of black pepper Lampung in Indonesia dropped by 0.31% to $ 6,835/ton, while the price of white pepper Muntok also fell by 0.3% to $ 8,945/ton.

In Malaysia, the price of Kuching ASTA black pepper was recorded at $ 8,400/ton, while ASTA white pepper was priced at $ 10,600/ton.

In Brazil, ASTA 570 black pepper traded at $ 6,275/ton.

In Vietnam, the export price of black pepper 500 g/l stood at $ 6,400/ton, while the 550 g/l type was priced at $ 6,700/ton. The export price of white pepper remained at $ 9,600/ton.

Global pepper prices today saw a slight decrease in Indonesia but remained unchanged in other countries.

Thus, on December 25, 2024, global pepper prices decreased in Indonesia compared to the previous day.

In the domestic market, pepper prices on December 25 remained steady compared to the previous day.

Specifically, Dak Lak continued purchasing at VND 145,000/kg, while Dak Nong maintained prices at VND 145,000/kg.

Gia Lai is currently trading pepper at VND 144,000

Traders in Dong Nai continued buying pepper at VND 144,000/kg.

In Ba Ria – Vung Tau, the prices held at VND 145,000/kg,

In Binh Phuoc, transactions were recorded at VND 144,000/kg.

Domestic pepper prices today remain stable, with the highest level recorded at VND 145,000/kg.

According to preliminary statistics from the General Department of Customs, as of December 15, Vietnam has exported nearly 242,000 tons of pepper of various types, earning $ 1.26 billion. Export value has far exceeded the $ 910.5 million recorded for the entire year of 2023, despite the export volume being approximately 23,900 tons lower.

This has also been noted as a record high for peppers since 2017. Domestically, prices soared from VND 80,000/kg in January to VND 180,000/kg in mid-June. While prices later cooled down, they have remained at high levels, benefiting Vietnamese pepper farmers significantly.

The 2025 pepper crop in Vietnam is expected to have a delayed harvest by 1-2 months compared to previous years due to prolonged drought, further tightening supply.

Aware of these challenges, importing markets have increased procurement efforts. As of now, most have sufficient inventory to last through the first quarter of next year. This has led to a rather subdued market with low demand toward the end of the year, limiting any significant price breakthroughs.

Thus, as of December 25, 2024, domestic pepper prices are trading around VND 144,000 – 145,000/kg.
