(VAN) ‘Norwegian seafood is becoming popular and chosen by many consumers’ said Mr Nguyen Tien Dung, Deputy General Director of the Winmart chain.
On the morning of June 4, at the WinMart Thang Long supermarket in Hanoi, the Norwegian Seafood Council (NSC) and WinCommerce officially signed a cooperation agreement, granting official permission to use the “Seafood from Norway” label on all packaging of seafood products imported from Norway in the WinMart supermarket chain nationwide.
This agreement will enhance the distribution of Norwegian seafood within the extensive retail network of WinMart supermarkets, ensuring that Vietnamese consumers have more access to high-quality seafood with clear and sustainable origin tracing through the “Seafood from Norway” label.
Dr. Asbjorn Warvik Rortveit, Director of the NSC for Southeast Asia, mentioned that during the period from 2020 to 2023, Vietnam had the highest growth rate in the value of seafood imports from Norway in Southeast Asia, reaching 113%, surpassing Thailand’s 103%, and four times the regional average growth rate of 30%.
The import of Norwegian seafood into Vietnam is on the rise. Specifically, since the beginning of 2024, Norway has witnessed impressive growth in the Vietnamese market. With a remarkable increase of 21% in volume and 28% in value, reaching 21,328 tons valued at $ 80 million, Vietnam has emerged as a significant market for Norwegian seafood amidst the challenging global seafood market in the early months of 2024, which saw a 15% decrease in quantity and no increase in value.
Dr. Asbjorn Warvik Rortveit emphasized that the entire origin of seafood from Norway is developed sustainably and prioritizes environmental protection.
“The cultivation of Norwegian seafood is managed through quota-regulated licenses that a company can produce. Sustainability in the seafood industry is ensured through strict regulations on quotas and international cooperation”, Dr. Asbjorn Warvik Rortveit stressed.
Emphasizing the significant importance of the cooperation agreement with WinCommerce, Mr. Asbjorn Warvik Rortveit said, “Our efforts go beyond just promoting Norwegian seafood. We aim to enhance our close partnership and bring many benefits to both countries. Through this collaboration, we hope to provide unique culinary experiences for food enthusiasts in Vietnam.”
Mr. Nguyen Tien Dung, Deputy General Director of the WinMart chain, shared, “Norwegian seafood, especially salmon, is increasingly popular and chosen by many consumers, demonstrating the extremely strong potential of the Vietnamese market. The collaboration between WinCommerce and NSC is evidence of our commitment to bringing customers the best-imported products, enhancing shopping experiences, and providing customers with access to premium and sustainable Norwegian seafood”.
