Pepper prices on January 5 globally

Globally, pepper prices on January 5 remained stable.

Specifically, black pepper from Lampung, Indonesia, stayed at $ 6,832/ton, while white pepper from Muntok held firm at $ 8,940/ton.

In Malaysia, Kuching ASTA black pepper was priced at $ 8,500/ton, and ASTA white pepper at $ 10,700/ton.

In Brazil, ASTA 570 black pepper traded at $ 6,325/ton.

In Vietnam, black pepper for export of the 500 g/l grade traded at $ 6,400/ton, while the 550 g/l grade reached $ 6,700/ton. Exported white pepper was priced at $ 9,600/ton.

The global pepper price today has shown no new fluctuations. To summarize this week, the global pepper market continues to fluctuate in opposing directions.

Currently, global pepper prices remain high due to decreased supply and increased consumption demand.

In the US, black pepper prices peaked at 8,693 USD/ton in June 2024. The global pepper production for 2024 is estimated to reach 533,000 tons, a decrease of 10,000 tons compared to the previous year.

Vietnam reports a decrease in production to 170,000 tons but is forecasted to recover to 200,000 tons by 2025. Meanwhile, India is expected to face a 25-30% reduction in production in 2025 due to the impact of unfavourable weather conditions.

Major consuming markets such as China, the US, and the EU are expected to continue increasing imports next year. China, in the first 11 months of 2024, has imported 9,677 tons of pepper, a 15.1% increase in quantity and a 42.1% increase in value compared to the same period last year.

This reflects strong consumption demand and puts pressure on global supply.

Thus, global pepper prices on January 5, 2025, remain stable compared to yesterday.

Pepper prices on January 5 domestically

In the domestic market, pepper prices on January 5 have continued to rise compared to yesterday.

Specifically, in Dak Lak, the purchase price is VND 149,000/kg, up by VND 1,000;

The price of pepper in Dak Nong has increased by VND 500, reaching VND 150,000/kg;

The price of pepper in Gia Lai has reached VND 148,000/kg, up by VND 500;

Traders in Dong Nai are buying pepper at VND 148,000/kg, also an increase of VND 500;

The price of pepper in Ba Ria – Vung Tau remains at VND 149,000/kg;

Meanwhile, traders in Binh Phuoc are dealing at VND 148,000/kg, an increase of VND 1,000.

Thus, domestic pepper prices on January 5, 2025, are trading around VND 148,000 – 150,000/kg.
