After the water receded, hundreds of hectares of Thai jackfruit and Indo jackfruit in Tan Do commune were being harvested, but the leaves had started to turn yellow or red and fell from their roots. A series of trees were exhausted due to long-term flooding and began to gradually die.
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Hau, agricultural officer of Tan Quoi commune, the locality has nearly 70 hectares growing these two types of jackfruit, accounting for 90% of the agricultural area, each hectare earning more than one billion VND per year.
“The historic high tide caused the entire area to be flooded, many trees died, and the damage was huge,” he said. Vinh Long Department of Agriculture said the high tide flooded more than 2,500 hectares of fruit gardens and 252 hectares of rice fields.
