On June 27, information from the Department of Industry and Trade of Bac Giang province stated that in the 2024 lychee season, due to unfavourable weather, Bac Giang’s lychee output reached nearly 100,000 tons, only 50% compared to last year. However, the price of lychees has increased sharply since the beginning of the season, doubling or even tripling compared to 2023. Lychee prices range from VND 55,000-85,000/kg, the highest ever.

As of June 24, the entire province of Bac Giang has consumed over 85.7 thousand tons of lychees, including over 47.6 thousand tons of early ripe lychees and 38.1 thousand tons of main season lychees. Luc Ngan is the district with the largest lychee production in Bac Giang province, with 53,000 tons of lychees.

Bac Giang lychees have been consumed smoothly in both domestic and export markets, with the province’s lychee export volume reaching over 24.7 thousand tons, accounting for more than 28.9% of the total consumption volume. Domestic consumption reached over 60.9 thousand tons, accounting for more than 71%.

Due to the increase in lychee prices, Bac Giang’s lychee export volume to various markets has significantly decreased this year. By June 24, the export volume to the Chinese market was over 24.5 thousand tons; the remaining exports were to markets such as the EU with 53 tons, Japan with 45 tons, Australia with 42 tons, the USA with 20 tons, Dubai with 21 tons, Canada with 16 tons, and Southeast Asian countries with 18 tons.

According to the Department of Industry and Trade of Bac Giang province, the revenue from lychees and ancillary services in Bac Giang this year is estimated at over VND 5.775 trillion. Of this, revenue from lychees is estimated at over VND 4.814 trillion, and export revenue is VND 1.670 trillion.

With a total lychee area of approximately 30,000 ha, Bac Giang province has focused on producing 223 planting unit codes, covering over 17,100 ha for export.

It is known that Bac Giang lychees are now exported to 30 countries and territories. Recently, the “Luc Ngan Lychee” brand of Hong Xuan Production and General Business Service Cooperative (Hong Giang Commune, Luc Ngan District) was one of four products to achieve the 5-star OCOP standard, as evaluated and ranked by the Central OCOP Product Evaluation Council on June 25.
