Global coffee prices rose again today, supported by a weaker U.S. dollar, though gains were limited by news that the EU has postponed the implementation of the EUDR to December 30, 2026, and by moves from several parties seeking to negotiate lower tariffs on Brazilian coffee entering the U.S., which pressured the market.

A recent study conducted by the Brazilian Coffee Association (ABIC) in collaboration with the Axxus Research Institute showed that about 24% of Brazilians have reduced their coffee consumption, a sharp increase compared to just 3% in 2023 and 5% in 2021. Meanwhile, only 2% of respondents said they increased their coffee intake in 2025, a steep decline from 16% in 2023 and 49% in 2021.

The share of people drinking more than six cups of coffee per day also dropped to 26% in 2025, compared to 29% in the previous survey. Research coordinator Sergio Pereira emphasised: “The survey shows that coffee consumption has fallen sharply, and price is increasingly becoming the decisive factor in consumer behavior.”

Mr Pereira is currently a researcher at the Coffee Center, Agronomy Institute of Campinas, which conducted the study together with the Center for Industrial Economics and Technology of the University of Campinas.

Thus, global coffee prices on October 1, 2025, increased slightly compared to yesterday.
