Brazil is the world’s largest producer and exporter of coffee, while the U.S. is the largest consumer. President Donald Trump’s decision to impose a 50% tariff starting in early August has shaken the international coffee market. Exports of Brazilian coffee to the U.S. fell to 301,099 bags in August, compared with 562,723 bags in the same month last year.

Cecafe Chairman Marcio Ferreira stated that tariffs have disrupted the market and the possibility of re-exporting through third countries is very low. Aguinaldo Lima, Director of ABICS, noted that U.S. tariffs have severely impacted the instant coffee industry, with exports dropping 59.9% to only 24,460 bags.

Brazil is facing the risk of inflation due to soaring coffee prices, according to Celirio Inacio, Executive Director of ABIC. He said expensive coffee has sparked consumer complaints and contributed to inflation. The U.S. 50% tariff on Brazil has pushed Arabica inventories down to their lowest level in 16 months, at 679,548 bags as of September 10.

Thus, global coffee prices today, September 11, 2025, rose strongly across the board compared with yesterday.
