Amid ongoing geopolitical tensions affecting global trade, the world pepper market is experiencing conflicting pressures. Concerns about supply, together with weakening consumption demand due to economic uncertainty, have created slight downward pressure on prices. However, speculative buying has also appeared, helping to support the market in the short term.
In Vietnam, harvesting activities have begun in most pepper growing regions following the Lunar New Year holiday. This year’s pepper production is expected to decline slightly due to prolonged heavy rainfall last year, while late rains toward the end of the year have also delayed the harvesting schedule compared with normal seasons.
In India, harvesting in major pepper producing states such as Kerala and Tamil Nadu has almost finished, while harvesting has begun in southern Karnataka. Some areas have reported lower output due to heavier than usual rainfall last year, which affected plant growth and increased disease risks.

Latest domestic and global pepper prices on March 16, 2026
In Indonesia, heavy rainfall continues in pepper producing areas such as Lampung and South Sumatra. Farmers and traders currently hold low inventories, resulting in relatively quiet domestic trading. Meanwhile, in Brazil, harvesting continues in the states of Espirito Santo and Bahia, with output assessed to be higher than last year thanks to favorable weather conditions.
According to Harris Spice, new supply from Vietnam and Brazil is putting slight downward pressure on the market, while instability in the Middle East is also affecting demand. However, low inventories and farmers holding their stock are likely to limit selling pressure, while speculative buying could help support prices in the coming period.
