(VAN) This marks a significant milestone in bilateral agricultural cooperation, while also establishing a framework for closer collaboration in veterinary inspection and quarantine.

During the official visit to Viet Nam by the Republic of Korean President Lee Jae Myung, Minister Trinh Viet Hung of Viet Nam’s Ministry of Agriculture and Environment (MAE) and Minister Song Miryung of the Republic of Korea’s Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on veterinary and animal quarantine cooperation. At MAE’s headquarters, the event also marked the official opening of the market for processed chicken meat products between the two countries.

This marks a significant milestone in bilateral agricultural cooperation and establishes a framework for closer coordination in quarantine and inspection.

Speaking at the event, Minister Trinh Viet Hung said that in the initial phase, each country will allow two enterprises to export processed chicken meat. He expressed hope that this first step would create momentum for expansion and encourage more businesses to participate.

“We expect more qualified enterprises to engage in export activities, thereby increasing the export value of the livestock and food processing sectors,” he emphasized.

From the Korean side, Minister Song Miryung said the outcome reflects persistent negotiations and effective coordination between the two countries’ specialized agencies, including Viet Nam’s Department of Livestock Production and Animal Health and the Republic of Korea’s Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency.

Minister Song Miryung said the two sides will continue technical exchanges, particularly in animal quarantine, to facilitate further market access for additional products such as Vietnamese pork and Korean beef.

To ensure effective implementation of the MoU, Minister Trinh Viet Hung said the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment will direct relevant units to work closely with their Korean counterparts on inspection, evaluation, and product quality monitoring.

From a business perspective, Mr. Pawalit Ua-Amornwanit, CEO of C.P. Viet Nam Corporation, said the approval to export processed chicken products to the Republic of Korea demonstrates the strong production and processing capabilities of Vietnamese enterprises.

He also expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, particularly specialized agencies such as the Department of Livestock Production and Animal Health, for their support throughout the negotiation process, including documentation and compliance with Korean technical requirements.

In the long term, with strengthening cooperation and proactive engagement from both authorities and businesses, agricultural trade between the two countries is expected to expand further, diversify product offerings, and move toward sustainable development, delivering tangible benefits to both people and business communities.
