Rice prices on August 12 domestically

In the domestic market, rice prices on August 12 remained stable. In the Mekong Delta region, rice prices continued to hold steady.

Specifically, rice prices today remained unchanged, with trading quiet. In An Giang, rice trading was slow, and prices were stable. In Soc Trăng, rice prices were flat with stable buying demand. In Long An, demand for autumn-winter rice was high, keeping prices elevated.

Currently, the price for fresh An Giang glutinous rice is around VND 7,000 – 7,200/kg, while fresh Long An glutinous rice is priced at VND 7,400 – 7,600/kg.

Long An (dry) glutinous rice is priced between VND 7,000 – 7,900/kg; fresh IR 4625 glutinous rice is around VND 7,500 – 7,800/kg.

IR 50404 rice is trading at approximately VND 6,900 – 7,000/kg, while Dai Thom 8 rice is at VND 7,400 – 7,600/kg.

OM 5451 rice is priced at VND 7,000 – 7,200/kg; OM 18 rice is at VND 7,650 – 7,800/kg; OM 380 rice is around VND 6,800 – 7,100/kg; Japonica rice is priced at VND 7,800 – 8,000/kg.

Nang Nhen rice (dry) is trading at VND 20,000/kg; Nang Hoa 9 rice remains at VND 6,900 – 7,000/kg.

For rice, the market showed no new changes today.

Meanwhile, rice prices in An Cu (Soc Trang) were stable with limited high-quality rice and slow trading. In Lap Vo (Dong Thap), rice prices remained flat, with a shortage of rice at the docks and low stock availability.

Currently, the price for IR 504 summer-autumn rice is VND 11,400 – 11,550/kg, and the finished IR 504 rice is 1VND 3,550 – 13,650/kg.

Glutinous rice prices are VND 16,000 – 20,000/kg; regular rice is at VND 15,000 – 16,000/kg; Nang Nhen rice is priced at VND 30,000/kg.

Similarly, fragrant Thai long-grain rice is priced at VND 20,000 – 21,000/kg; Jasmine fragrant rice is VND 18,000 – 20,000/kg; and Huong Lai rice holds at VND 20,000/kg.

Common white rice is purchased at 17,000 VND/kg; Nang Hoa rice is 20,000 VND/kg; Soc rice is at 18,500 VND/kg; and Soc Thai rice is 20,000 VND/kg.

Taiwanese fragrant rice is priced at VND 21,000/kg; Japanese rice remains at VND 22,000/kg. Broken OM 5451 rice is at VND 9,200 – 9,400/kg and dry rice bran is priced at VND 7,250 – 7,350/kg.

In the export market, 100% broken rice is steady at $ 435/ton; standard 5% broken rice is priced at $ 559/ton. The price for 25% broken rice is $ 524/ton.

Thus, on 08/12/2024, domestic rice prices remained unchanged.

Soc Trang harvested over 36,200 ha

For the summer-autumn 2024 season, Soc Trang has planted over 140,400 ha. As of now, over 36,200 ha have been harvested, primarily in My Tu, Thanh Tri, Chau Thanh, Ke Sach, Nga Nam, and Soc Trang city.

The average yield for the summer-autumn 2024 rice season is estimated at 55.3 quintals/ha, with a total production of 200,639 tons. Main rice varieties include OM5451, OM18, OM34, Dai Thom 8, and ST.

Recently, continuous rain and high humidity have led to pest issues. Statistics from the Soc Trang Department of Agriculture indicate over 12,500 ha affected by pests, including leaf blight, neck rot, grain discolouration, leaf burning, and stem rot.

In the Long Phu district, farmers started the summer-autumn 2024 crop about two weeks later than last year. The delay was due to the 2023/24 dry season, which affected saltwater intrusion and the late onset of rain. Farmers had to wait for enough fresh water to wash out the salinity before planting, affecting progress.

Salinity and alkalinity issues have caused over 500 hectares of summer-autumn rice in the district to be replanted. Currently, the rice is mainly in the heading and flowering stages.

The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting predicts that from August to October 2024, rainfall will be 5-15% higher than the average for this period. There is a potential for storms and tropical depressions to cause heavy rain, flooding, and rice lodging, especially during the heading stage.

Frequent rainfall and storms present significant challenges for Soc Trang farmers in implementing alternating wet-dry irrigation (AWD), impacting yield and quality.
