(VAN) During the 2021–2025 period, Viet Nam’s agro-forestry-fishery processing industry has made remarkable progress, achieving an average growth rate of 8%/year.

In the context of globalization and increasingly fierce competition, Viet Nam’s agro-forestry-fishery products have been given top priority for quality, food safety, processing, and market development.

In 2021, the export turnover of agro-forestry-fishery products reached USD 48.6 billion, rising to USD 62.5 billion by 2024, with an average growth rate of 8%/year. In the first six months of 2025, agro-forestry-fishery exports reached USD 33.84 billion, up 15.5% compared to the same period last year. Vietnamese agricultural products are now present in more than 180 countries, affirming Viet Nam’s position as a dynamic, deeply integrated agricultural nation.

Accompanying this development process, the National Authority for Agro-Forestry-Fishery Quality, Processing and Market Development (NAFIQPM) under the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment has played a key role in connecting production with consumption, enhancing added value, and resolving the output problem for Vietnamese agricultural products.

During the 2021–2025 period, the NAFIQPM has proactively completed the legal framework on quality management, food safety, traceability, and branding of agricultural products. A series of policies, projects, and plans has been implemented synchronously, contributing to stabilizing production, balancing the market, and promoting exports.

Supervision, certification, inspection, and violation handling in food safety have been strictly carried out, with tens of thousands of production and business establishments inspected annually. Over 93% of small-scale facilities have signed commitments to ensure food safety, while more than 98% of establishments meet production conditions.

Notably, digital transformation and traceability have become highlights, with more than 30,000 enterprises and cooperatives applying digital platforms in quality management, thereby enhancing reliability, reducing risks, and improving economic efficiency.

In addition, the agroforestry-fishery processing industry has made remarkable progress, achieving an average annual growth rate of 8%. Currently, the country has nearly 8,000 industrial-scale processing facilities linked to export and more than 22,000 small-scale facilities serving the domestic market. The proportion of deeply processed products has increased from 20% in 2021 to over 30% in 2024.

The system of cold storage, logistics centers, and modern preservation infrastructure has been invested in synchronously, helping reduce post-harvest losses to below 20%. This has contributed to improving the quality of agricultural products and expanding market access.

In terms of trade, agro-forestry-fishery exports have grown by more than 10% per year, reaching a record USD 62.5 billion in 2024, with a trade surplus of USD 17.9 billion. Viet Nam currently has 11 export commodities valued at over USD 1 billion, including 7 exceeding USD 3 billion.

The Department has also proactively promoted trade in key markets, including China, the EU, the Americas, ASEAN, and the Middle East, helping strengthen the image and reputation of Vietnamese agricultural products in the global market.

Alongside these achievements, the sectors of processing, quality management, and market development for agricultural products still face challenges, including uneven quality, limited deep processing, weak logistics infrastructure, and non-synchronous technology adoption. However, these challenges also present opportunities to create breakthroughs toward green and sustainable development.

In the coming period, key priorities include perfecting the synchronous legal and policy framework on quality, food safety, processing, and market development to align with international standards, and enhancing inspection, certification, and monitoring of the production chain.

Additionally, developing modern logistics and processing infrastructure while encouraging private investment in high technology, deep processing, and smart preservation to reduce post-harvest losses to below 10%.

Promoting digital transformation and innovation, building a national agricultural database, and integrating AI and Big Data for market forecasting, risk management, and product traceability.

Building the brand of Vietnamese agricultural products based on local values and international standards, and promoting the “Made in Viet Nam” and OCOP programs toward ecological, organic, and responsible production.

Finally, investing in high-quality human resources and developing a capable workforce of officials and Party members skilled in management, technology, and digital transformation. Strengthening public–private–local linkages for effectively implementing market development programs.

With a vision to 2030, the NAFIQPM has defined its mission as providing strategic advice, driving innovation, promoting digital transformation, and fostering the development of a modern, green, sustainable, and internationally integrated agricultural market.

On the occasion of the 80th Anniversary of the Day of Agriculture and Environment and the 1st Patriotic Emulation Congress, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment organized a series of events from July to December 2025. The highlight will be the 80th Anniversary Celebration of the Agriculture and Environment sector and the 1st Patriotic Emulation Congress, scheduled for the morning of November 12, 2025, at the National Convention Center in Hanoi. The event is expected to have the participation of more than 1,200 delegates, including leaders of the Party, State, National Assembly, and Government; former ministry leaders; representatives of international organizations; and advanced typical individuals across the sector.
