According to the Bac Ninh Department of Agriculture and Environment, the province currently has 241 growing area codes covering a total area of more than 17,450 hectares serving exports to multiple markets. Among them, the China market accounts for 127 growing area codes with an area of more than 16,190 hectares and an estimated output of around 110,000 tons; the United States has 21 growing area codes covering more than 250 hectares with output estimated at around 2,500 tons; Australia has 29 growing area codes covering more than 386 hectares with estimated output of around 3,000 tons; Thailand has 25 growing area codes covering more than 290 hectares with estimated output of around 2,000 tons; Japan has 39 growing area codes covering nearly 327 hectares with estimated output of around 3,500 tons; while the European Union has one growing area code.
Along with the growing area code system, the province currently manages 42 packaging facilities that have been granted official codes and meet export requirements. Of these, 38 facilities serve the Chinese market, one serves the U.S. market, one serves the Thai market, one serves the Japanese market, and one serves the Australian market.
To meet rising export demand, in 2026 Bac Ninh plans to evaluate and approve five additional packaging facilities, contributing to improved preprocessing and packaging capacity for lychee exports to international markets.
This year, the province has approximately 29,800 hectares under lychee cultivation, with an estimated output of around 95,068 tons, equivalent to 59.5% of the annual target. Early-season lychees are currently at the stem-reddening stage, with concentrated harvesting expected from May 20 to June 15, 2026, about 5–7 days earlier than in 2025. Main-season lychees are currently in the flesh-development stage, with harvest expected from June 10 to July 20, 2026.
To prepare for the 2026 lychee harvest and export season, the Department of Agriculture and Environment continues to direct the Plant Production and Protection Sub-Department, the Agricultural Extension Center, and related professional units to implement comprehensive measures to improve productivity, quality, and export compliance.
The province is coordinating with professional agencies in lychee-growing communes and wards to promote safe production processes under VietGAP, GlobalG.A.P, and organic standards; strengthen supervision of growing area codes and packaging facilities; and closely monitor the use of plant protection chemicals to ensure lychee quality for both domestic consumption and export.
At the same time, local authorities continue to guide the evaluation and selection of “beautiful lychee orchards” based on official criteria, linking them to product promotion, sales, and experiential tourism development. In addition, cooperatives, cooperative groups, and farmers are being supported in developing branding, labeling, packaging, pre-processing, preservation, and processing methods to improve the quality and value of Bac Ninh lychees in international markets.
