Malaysia imported coffee from 40 countries and territories worldwide in the first three months of 2026. Imports from Indonesia and India increased, while imports from Viet Nam, Brazil, and Colombia declined.

Specifically, Viet Nam was Malaysia’s largest coffee supplier in the first three months of 2026, reaching 8,000 tons worth $ 37.1 million, down 2.2% in volume and 17.3% in value compared to the same period in 2025. Viet Nam’s share of Malaysia’s total coffee imports increased from 36.9% in the first three months of 2025 to 38.56% in the first three months of 2026.

Indonesia was Malaysia’s second-largest coffee supplier, with exports totaling 5,700 tons worth $25.2 million, up 21.6% in volume and 9.7% in value year-on-year. Indonesia’s share rose from 21.01% in the first three months of 2025 to 27.32% in the same period of 2026.

In recent years, Malaysia has been regarded as one of the fastest-growing coffee-consumption markets in Southeast Asia. Rising incomes, changing urban lifestyles, and modern consumption trends are driving wider coffee demand, especially among young consumers and the middle class.

According to a report by 6Wresearch, Malaysia’s coffee market is forecast to maintain positive growth during 2025-2031, with an average annual growth rate of around 7%. This trend reflects the expansion of domestic consumption demand.

To expand coffee exports to Malaysia, Vietnamese businesses need to improve product quality and meet food safety requirements, while also paying close attention to Halal standards, as Malaysia has a large Muslim population. Ensuring that production, processing, and packaging processes comply with Halal standards will help products reach consumers more easily.

In addition, businesses should promote processed coffee development, build brands, and expand modern distribution channels to increase export value and strengthen competitiveness in the Malaysian market.
