(VAN) QR-based traceability is helping Muong Phang sturgeon enhance product value, strengthen its brand, and build consumer trust.
In the heart of Noong Luong lake (Muong Phang commune, Dien Bien), sturgeon cages floating on clear blue waters are opening new opportunities for local aquaculture. Beyond investing in professional farming processes, sturgeon farms here are gradually adopting traceability technology, helping improve product value and build greater consumer trust.
Thai Cuc Consulting and Construction Co., Ltd. has been operating a sturgeon farming model in Dien Bien for nearly four years on a 12-hectare site. With cool water year-round, fresh air, and a well-invested oxygenation system, the farming environment provides ideal conditions for fish growth.

According to Nguyen Van Huan, Director of Thai Cuc Consulting and Construction Co., Ltd., the company also focuses on improving product quality and places special emphasis on transparency through product traceability systems.
With guidance from the Dien Bien Department of Science and Technology, the company gains access to the food traceability software and makes the most of it. This tool helps improve product management efficiency while enabling consumers to easily verify product origins.
“Through the traceability software, we can generate QR codes for each product when sold. Each QR code displays the product origin, farming process, farming location, and product information at the time of sale. Fish weight is also accurately recorded according to the data embedded in the QR code. Traceability helps strengthen product branding and prevents false origin labeling in the market,” Huan said.
As consumers pay more attention to product quality and origin, traceability is becoming an essential requirement for many agricultural and food products. Beyond improving transparency, this system encourages producers to take greater responsibility throughout every stage of production, farming, and product distribution.

For the Muong Phang sturgeon, traceability is particularly important. Each QR code serves as a digital product record, allowing consumers to access complete product information before making a purchase. It also helps protect producers’ reputations by reducing the risk of counterfeit goods or false origin claims.
Thai Cuc faced several challenges during the early implementation stage because the traceability procedure was still new and had not yet been widely adopted. “At first, we struggled to understand the procedures and the software. However, the technical team was eager to support us, so it did not take long for us to be familiar with the system,” Huan said.

The Muong Phang sturgeon farming model demonstrates how science and technology are gradually driving positive changes in agricultural production. By improving product management, enhancing transparency, and building brand identity, QR-based traceability not only benefits businesses but also strengthens consumer confidence in local specialty products.
On June 22, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Hoang Trung chaired a meeting in Hanoi to hear reports on the preparation for the operation of the traceability system for agricultural, forestry, and aquatic products.
According to Nguyen Van Long, Director of the Department of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment has focused intensively on preparing to operate the traceability system for agricultural, forestry, and aquatic products, aiming for official implementation on July 1, 2026. Preparations have been implemented in parallel across three aspects: institutional reform, infrastructure and technical system development, and the organization of connections and trial operations.
Deputy Minister Hoang Trung emphasized the urgent need to complete preparations for the announcement and operation ceremony of the agricultural, forestry, and aquatic product traceability system in early next month.
Regarding technical aspects, the Deputy Minister assigned the Digital Transformation Department to lead the completion of infrastructure, authorizations, operating procedures, and system functions, ensuring information security and readiness for operation as of July 1, 2026.
Specialized departments should focus on standardizing, updating, and synchronizing data, prioritizing foundational data such as codes for growing areas, packaging facilities, production, and livestock; and simultaneously coordinate the completion of operational procedures for key products. Data connection and sharing must adhere to the principle of “one declaration, multiple uses,” avoiding duplicate investments.
