(VAN) In the 7 months of 2026, Ca Mau’s seafood export turnover exceeded USD 1.3 billion, fulfilling 52% of the province’s annual target.
According to the Ca Mau Department of Agriculture and Environment, the province’s seafood export turnover exceeded USD 1.3 billion in the first seven months of the year, fulfilling 52% of its annual target. The seafood sector remained the province’s leading economic driver, accounting for nearly 90% of the primary sector (agriculture, forestry and fisheries) and contributing approximately 31% of the province’s Gross Regional Domestic Product.
Ca Mau’s aquaculture area has expanded to more than 450,000 hectares, including over 416,990 hectares dedicated to shrimp farming.

Mr. To Hoai Phuong, Director of the Ca Mau Department of Agriculture and Environment, said the province is currently focused on increasing productivity on existing aquaculture areas. This includes raising the number of production cycles and restocking intensive and super-intensive farming systems, while effectively implementing the 100,000-hectare Improved Extensive Shrimp Farming Development Project. The province is also developing raw material production areas and strengthening integrated shrimp value chains, covering broodstock and seed production, farming, processing, logistics, and exports.
Looking ahead, the Ca Mau provincial government is encouraging seafood exporters to diversify their export markets, reduce reliance on traditional destinations, and actively expand into promising markets such as the European Union, the Middle East, South Korea, and Japan.
At the same time, the province is providing guidance and support for businesses to comply with rules of origin and obtain certificates of origin. It is also stepping up assistance for brand development, trademark registration, intellectual property protection, and geographical indication recognition, while intensifying trade promotion activities to enhance the global visibility of Ca Mau’s image and flagship products.
Ca Mau has recently put the Minh Phu Khanh An Seafood Processing Plant into operation. With an annual processing capacity of 19,000 tonnes, the facility is expected to enhance the value of seafood products and further boost the province’s export earnings.
